Good news for .NET developers

December 10, 2007

An AJAX toolkit like GWT is announced for .NET developers, called ‘Volta‘. (link)
In a nutshell:
The idea is that you start out building your application, focusing on
the functionality, the look and feel, until you’re satisfied with it
and then you repurpose it into an AJAX application or whatever,” Erik
Meijer, Volta’s principal architect and a member of Microsoft’s SQL
Server team, said in an interview. “You incrementally morph a standard
client-only application into a Web application. The programmer
specifies the intent and then we’re going to insert all the necessary
code to do the ‘how.’

Salesforce Terms of Service!

December 1, 2007

I saw this sentence in the Master Subscription Agreement of Salesforce.com :
You shall not … reverse engineer or access the Service in order to … build a product using similar ideas, features, functions or graphics of the Service, or (c) copy any ideas, features, functions or graphics of the Service.

What does that really mean? I think It means that: hey, do not build a website like ours. We are the only one who are permitted to do this and We cannot tolerate any competitor. :)

Some advices for linux community from a Windows developer

December 1, 2007

I am a windows developer and honestly I have not worked much with linux, Currently I have installed OpenSuse 10.3 and It seems to have issues as previous distros I used to work with (Like Fedora).

So I decided to write my opinion about linux (in comparison to windows).
First of all, the user interface is really poor, Although there are background images, icons, screen savers and themes but they are far behind windows. It’s not really easy for a newbie.
Also installation is a nightmare, there are 200,000,000 :) packages that should be installed when installing linux, this is not a good way, It’d be better to group similar packages and let the user not see the exact file which is being installed (I know, this is mostly a UI issue).
Booting-up and shutting-down in Linux is another weak point IMHO. I really do not want to know that currently Linux is waiting for DHCP server or it is changing its runlevel, It’d be great t
